Install & update

GPCL supports Windows 10 / 11 64-bit only. The installer does not bundle Java; the launcher installs it per game version as needed.

Download

Get the installer from the official download section or GitHub Releases. The file name is GPCL-<version>-Setup.exe.

Do not get the installer from cloud drives, group chat files, or third-party download sites: such files may have been replaced, and the launcher cannot verify where they came from.

Installation

  1. Double-click the installer and choose an installation folder.
  2. When it finishes, start GPCL from the desktop or the Start menu.
  3. The first launch creates the configuration, logs, and the default game directory.

You do not need to uninstall an older version before upgrading. The installer takes over the existing installation in place (including older NSIS packages); desktop shortcuts and data are kept.

Where the game and settings live

Both are under %APPDATA%\gpcl, not in the installation folder:

PathContents
%APPDATA%\gpcl\.minecraftGame versions, libraries, assets, mods, and worlds
%APPDATA%\gpcl\gpcl\config\setting.iniLauncher settings
%APPDATA%\gpcl\gpcl\logLauncher logs
%APPDATA%\gpcl\gpcl\updataInstallers downloaded by auto-update and its progress records

If you have changed the game directory, versions and assets go to the new location, but the configuration and logs still stay in %APPDATA%\gpcl.

Setting the game language automatically

Settings → Game → Set game language automatically is on by default, and the selected language defaults to Simplified Chinese. Before every launch, GPCL rewrites the lang: value in the options.txt that the current version actually uses, and keeps every other line unchanged.

Isolated versions write to versions/<version-name>/options.txt; non-isolated ones write to options.txt in the game root. Turn this switch off and GPCL does not touch the in-game settings at all.

Updates

Two options are on by default:

  • Check for updates automatically: checks at startup and shows a notice in the top-right corner when a new version is available.
  • Install updates automatically: downloads silently in the background, without using the download page or changing the status bar. Once verification passes, it waits until you quit the launcher and then installs silently.

The round badge in the top-right corner shows download progress; click it to see the version number and what changed in that release. You can also click "Download now" there, and the launcher reopens automatically when the install finishes.

Under Settings → About you can turn off automatic checking or automatic installing, or click "Check for updates" manually.

The update package is verified by SHA1 before installing; a failed check means it is not installed. If an install is interrupted halfway, the next launch reports "the previous update did not finish" and you can retry; after three consecutive failures it points you to the website to download the installer again.

Upgrading from 1.5.2 or older

Older versions do not understand the silent-install flags, so this one upgrade still shows the old installer wizard once. From 1.6.0 onward the whole process is silent.

If the launcher will not start after an update, check the newest log in %APPDATA%\gpcl\gpcl\log first, then email it along with your message.

Importing a local version

In the "Version selection" panel on the launch page, click "Import local version". You can import:

  • a version folder (it must contain <version-name>.json);
  • a zip or jar archive: the launcher unpacks it and recursively looks for the folder that contains <version-name>.json;

Modpacks (the kind with a minecraft section in manifest.json) cannot be imported yet; the launcher rejects them outright instead of installing half of one.

Uninstall

Uninstall GPCL from Windows "Apps & features". The uninstaller does not delete %APPDATA%\gpcl, so the game and settings are still there after reinstalling.

If you are sure you will not use it again, you can delete the whole %APPDATA%\gpcl folder manually. Back up your worlds first.
